FBR Staff Writer Published 26 October 2017

Orkla Food Ingredients has agreed to acquire Norwegian ingredient supplier Arne B. Corneliussen from Danish Crown for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition will be carried out through Orkla's subsidiary Idun Industri from DAT-Schaub, a subsidiary of global meat processing company Danish Crown.

Arne B. Corneliussen manufactures and supplies spices, flavourings, marinades, starter cultures and other functional ingredients to the Norwegian food industry which includes food processing companies and meat manufacturers. The company also provides packaging solutions.

Orkla Food Ingredients, which is a bakery ingredients supplier in the Nordic region, provides margarine and butter blends, yeast, bread and cake improvers and mixes, and marzipan among other products.

Orkla Food Ingredients CEO and Orkla EVP Pål Eikeland said: “This acquisition gives us access to a new growth platform in the food industry.

“The purchase of Arne B. Corneliussen also offers potential for synergies with our existing ingredients operations in Norway, in the form of a more strategic focus on the out-of-home sector as well as savings in areas such as purchasing and distribution.”

Established in 1949, Arne B. Corneliussen was acquired by DAT-Schaub in 1995. Its turnover in 2016 was NOK188m ($23.46m). The ingredient manufacturer has a head office, production facilities, warehouse and a test kitchen at Økern in Oslo.

DAT-Schaub CEO Jan Roelsgaard said: “We have had nothing but good experiences during our period as owners of Arne B. Corneliussen, but the time has now come to concentrate our operations.

“We think that a Norwegian owner will be positive for the company, and we look forward to continuing the close collaboration between DAT-Schaub and Arne B. Corneliussen.”

The transaction is subject to approval from the Norwegian competition authorities.
